About contributing
Do I have to pay anything to play?
No. Every mode is free during the beta: all five AI tiers run without an account, and ranked and casual PvP are unlimited once you create one. Contributions are voluntary and unlock nothing — they just help cover servers and development.
What do I get for contributing?
A Supporter badge on your profile and early access to the dev log. Add your Chessception username to the transfer reference so we can match the payment to your account — the QR code above fills it in for you when you're signed in.
How does the bank transfer work?
The QR code follows the EPC / SEPA standard. Scan it with your banking app and it pre-fills our IBAN, the amount and the reference — you still confirm the payment in your own app. You can also enter the details by hand; they're printed under the code.
Can I get a contribution refunded?
Yes, within 14 days — email billing@chessception.com with the transfer reference and we'll send it back.
Will Chessception stay free?
The core game stays free. A paid tier is planned after the beta for extras like deeper match analytics, but everything you can play today will remain playable at no cost.

Common billing questions
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Email billing@chessception.com to cancel — we process it within 48 hours. You keep access until the end of the current period. Self-service cancellation in Dashboard → Billing is coming soon. No retention dark patterns.
How does the 14-day free trial work?
Add a payment method, get full Premium access for 14 days. Cancel any time during the trial — you won't be charged. After 14 days, your selected billing cycle starts.
Can I upgrade or downgrade mid-cycle?
Yes. Upgrades are prorated immediately; downgrades take effect at the next billing cycle.
What happens if a payment fails?
We retry 3 times over 7 days, send email reminders, and notify you in-app. Your account drops to Free if all retries fail. Re-add a payment method to restore access.
Do you offer student or team discounts?
Yes. Verified students get 50% off Premium. Teams of 5+ qualify for bulk pricing — email billing@chessception.com.
Can I get a refund?
Within 14 days of purchase, no questions asked. After 14 days, refunds are at our discretion based on usage.
What is the beta discount?
During the closed beta, Premium is 50% off the regular price as a thank-you for supporting early development. The discounted price is locked in for the duration of your subscription — you won't be bumped to the higher price when beta ends.
