HP & Damage

Every piece has hit points. Pawns 2/2, majors 4/2, Queen 4/4. Pieces survive trades — turning every move into a combat decision, not a binary capture.

Area-of-Effect

Rooks cleave perpendicular, Bishops splash diagonal corners, Queens sweep a 3-square cone in their movement direction. Position matters — not just targets.

Buff Auras

Knights stack offensive auras (×2 damage per stack). Kings shield neighbors (½ incoming damage). Stack Knights for devastating combos.

Pawn Counter-attacks

Hit a pawn but don't kill it? It strikes back. Direct hit or AoE — surviving pawns retaliate before the dust settles.

HP Win Condition

No checkmate puzzles. No stalemate stalls. The first King to reach 0 HP loses. Combat is decisive — but five draw conditions keep games clean.

Promotion Choice

Promote to any missing major piece — or grab a second Queen if all slots are filled. Promoted pieces enter at full HP.
